We had our 12 month "well child" checkup last week. It was a pretty hairy experience. That checkup comes with three immunizations, plus we elected for them to get flu shots so they got a total of four shots each. They pretty much wailed, which was sad but temporary. Also, they had to get a finger prick so that their blood could be tested for anemia. Olivia screamed with that too, but Carter didn't even flinch. He calmly watched the nurse squeeze blood out of his thumb and collect it into a tube. What a toughie!
Here are their stats:
Carter:
Weight: 22 pounds, 8 ounces
Height: 31 inches
Head Circumference: 18 inches
Olivia:
Weight: 18 pounds
Height: 28 inches
Head Circumference: 17.5 inches
I'm so proud of how much they have grown. Olivia's weight has officially made the percentile chart. She has been at 3% (which is technically "off the chart" as "normal" children fall between 5-95%) ever since I can remember, but now she is in the 6th percentile for weight. It must be because she loves to eat!

Birthday Weekend Part 3: Party day
Sunday was the day we celebrated their first birthday. Dun and Bop Bop came for lunch and the party and a good time was had by all. The night before, Morgan helped me make their birthday cake. We iced it and put sprinkles on in the morning. Morgan was in charge of the sprinkles and she used the entire supply. You will see that she got total coverage on the cake. What a talented little girl she is.
The day started off just like every day....fun time in the jammas.
We also celebrated Bop Bop's 80th birthday. My mother made him a cheesecake, which is his favorite dessert. It was so special to all of us to get to celebrate two milestone birthdays together. He is a wonderful great-grandfather to Olivia and Carter.
I rarely let the twins have sweets, however their inexperience with cake and icing didn't slow them down. They loved it. About an hour later they woke up from their afternoon nap in horrible moods. I think the sugar gave them tummy aches. Oh well....it's the price you pay for indulging in a sweet treat.
Later that evening we packed up and drove back to Mississippi. I took these pics shortly after we got on the road. Carter is always lulled to sleep quickly in the car, but not my sweet Olivia. She watched the road for a while before she fell asleep.

Then it was time to open presents. The kids got so many wonderful toys, clothes, and cards (the cards are their favorite - random!). Our family is so good to us.

Birthday Weekend Part 2
Yay Aunt Ellie and Uncle Chris are here! They got in on Friday night and then went for a bike ride Saturday morning.
My mom borrowed this little "house" from one of her coworkers a couple of years ago and we ended up keeping it (with the owner's blessing) because Morgan and Caroline loved it so much. My twins discovered it on this trip and they loved it too.
These stairs really gave me fits. Olivia was drawn to them like a moth to a flame. She never fell but someone was always watching her like a hawk. Dangerous...sigh.
Unfortunately Pops is making a very strange face in this pic, but I like it because it shows so many people doing what we do at the lake house - just hanging out.
This is the lid to a drum that Carter played with. I showed him how to squish his face against it. One more life skill I've passed along!
This was Morgan's party juice. My kids don't drink juice but Carter got a hold of this and it was easier for me to take it out of his hands (he was squirting it all over the place) and hold it for him while he drank it. Otherwise, he would have thrown a fit, and heaven forbid he have a fit on his birthday weekend. :-)
