Olivia's first haircut

Olivia got her first haircut!  I took her to Misha, the woman who does my hair.  I tried to talk it up ahead of time and once we arrived.  I told her how special this was and it was something only girls got to do (going to the salon!).  There was even another little girl in the waiting area who Olivia seemed to admire.  All was off to a good start.....I thought.

From the second we put Olivia in the booster in the chair, she started freaking out.  Misha and another stylist, Adam, tried to calm her down, but she wasn't having any of it.  So, I just held her and Misha gave her a quick trim.  She probably got her hair cut in less than 2 minutes.

Once we got out to the car, she was all smiles.  I love her cleaned up 'do!

Bike Riding on the Trace: Spring Edition

It's been two seasons since we've taken the twins bike riding on the Longleaf Trace, and I'd say it's a little more crowded in the trailer than it was last time.

Dun's visit

Dun was in a bad car accident in February.  She injured her head, back and foot, which kept her out of work for almost 12 weeks.  I know it was a painful recovery for her and she got stir crazy being cooped up in her house.  So, we invited her to come see us and she obliged!  She spent 6 days with us and we had a wonderful time.

Dun gave this headband to Olivia and she loved wearing it.  She knows she's fine!

Dun took this pic of our family on the night before she left.

My kids had so much fun with her.  They adore her.  We can't wait until she comes back!

Grandmommie's rings

This picture is so special to me.  I took it at Erika's wedding.

While visiting with Karen, Bryan's bride-to-be, during the cocktail hour, I asked to see her engagement ring.  She showed me a beautiful ring that Bryan had made using the diamond from Grandmommie's engagement ring.  I showed her the wedding band I wear, which is the same wedding band Grandmommie wore.  Our Grandmommie wore three rings on the ring finger of her left hand for as long as I can remember.  Her engagement ring, her wedding band, and her mother-in-law's (Mama Harris)engagement ring.

On the day she died, I remember that her rings were removed and given to three of us.  Uncle Bart took Mama Harris's engagement ring, Uncle Jim took Grandmommie's engagement ring, and my mom let me have Grandmommie's wedding band.

Uncle Bart ended up giving the engagement ring to Aunt Jenny, who has worn it on the ring finger of her left hand for many years now.  I wore the wedding band on the ring finger of my right hand for years after her death, until I got engaged to Forrest.  Then I decided I wanted that to be my wedding band too, so it's the ring he gave me on our wedding day.

The other ring though had not been worn since Grandmommie died.  It was kept somewhere safe by Uncle Jim until Bryan needed it.  He then created a beautiful new ring for Karen using the diamond from that ring.

It occured to me at this wedding that this was the first time since October of 2000 that the three rings worn by my grandmother were all in the same place again.  So, I called Aunt Jenny over and we took this picture of our hands.

Erika's Wedding Part 3

After the wedding, the guests enjoyed a cocktail hour while the wedding party took pics, then we moved to the helicopter pad/reception site up the hill to enjoy a wonderful dinner.

The wedding took place the Saturday before Easter.  My dad strongly desired to be back in the pews of his church on Easter Sunday, so we left the reception right after the cake was cut to drive the four long hours back home.  Dad made me a nice little pallet in the backseat of his SUV so that I could sleep the whole way, which is exactly what I did!
