Katie at day care (she's also one of our regular sitters) told us on Friday that all the ladies at Crayon College like to stop in to the infant room so that they can hold Carter. She said that he's charming. Can you blame them?

Two Peas in a Pod
One of my customers, Jim Munroe from AMEA, has a side business writing whimsical poems (rhymes4life.com). He writes them to commemorate big events in people's lives. Unbeknownst to me, he wrote one for the births of Carter and Olivia. Below is the picture of what he sent me, but I've also typed out the poem as it's hard to read from the picture. I teared up when I read it.
Two Peas in a Pod
The girl was born in Texas, she's a Longhorn thru and thru,
the boy in North Carolina, then led the College Station crew.
The girl had just turned twenty five, a group went out that night,
the boy was there beside her, he waited 'til the time was right.
One year later they were married and the two became as one,
they love to travel, love to cruise and take ski trips just for fun.
Then in two thousand eleven, it was in October of that year,
there was a joyous celebration, two new reasons for a cheer.
It was on the ninth and she came first, five ten at night they claim,
four pounds and seven ounces and Olivia is her name.
Then he came next, five twenty one, ladies first they always say,
five pounds and five more ounces and then Carter was displayed.
Her length was fifteen inches, he was two and one half more,
she might grow to be a Longhorn, he might grow to join the Corp.
We don't know about the future, we don't know what lies ahead,
so for now just hold those babies, tuck them in their little beds.
Watch them grow each day, make every moment last,
for time goes by so quickly, oh it happens all too fast.
May God bless her and God bless him, may the angels watch above,
two little peas inside a pod, surrounded by unending love.

Fired
The ladies who work the day care we attend are so good to my babies. They all talk about how wonderful Olivia and CArter are and how they are the best babies in the infant room. I'm sure they say this to all moms, but I appreciate the effort to make us feel special. I know they are in good hands.
There was a woman, A, who was recently hired at day care and she worked in the infant room. The first day on the job, she complained about Carter and Olivia when I picked them up. She said that they both took forever to feed, that she doesn't think they like my breastmilk and suggested that I switch to formula, and told me that she gets frustrated with Olivia when she fusses. I was pretty taken aback by her. I don't expect every day care worker to love my kids like I do. However, it was just kind of alarming to see how much she seemed to dislike them. I told Forrest and he said I should tell Rebecca or Annie, the managers of the day care. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to be a pain in the butt, and it's not like my kids were at risk (at least I didn't perceive that they were).
I haven't seen A at all this week so I asked about her. In Rebecca's words..."A had to go." According to Rebecca, A was lazy, didn't like to interact with the babies, and she complained to some of the parents about their kids.
I hate for someone to lose her job. A is 15 weeks pregnant with her first child and she told me that she and her fiance were having money problems. So, I empathize with her. However, I'm so glad she's not taking care of my babies any more. I need to be more proactive with expressing personnel concerns with the day care management. I don't have beef with any other ladies, so there's no current issue, but these are my kids we're talking about and I think it's worth having a backbone to get my kids what they need. There's a difference between being assertive and being a helicopter parent, right?

Matchy Matchy!
Can you believe it's been five months and today was the first time I put the twins in matching clothes? Shame on me! It's my entitlement to get to dress them alike, and though they are of opposite genders, I still am at liberty to go off the deep end in terms of coordinating their attire.
My excuse is a poor one, but it is valid. I've just been too busy with other things to worry about what they are wearing. I'm just now starting to take an active interest in getting them cute clothes, instead of just putting them in things that are practical.
For Christmas my mother got them several pairs of PJ's and there are two sets that are matching. Can you tell them apart? :-)

Rice Cereal: A first
Parents are always wanting to commemorate and remember "firsts". I'm not sure if this one is worth remembering, but it was so much fun that I'm going to celebrate it as a momentous "first." Yesterday we tried rice cereal. Actually, we very briefly tried it at the lake house this weekend, but it was the wrong setting and we threw in the towel prematurely, so I'm not counting that as the first. Yesterday was definitely the first that I want to remember.
Carter does not like the rice cereal. I mixed it with breastmilk and tasted a bit of it to see if it was vile (I know, me tasting my own breastmilk is vile, but I did it for the kids!). It tasted good - nice and sweet. Despite the sweetness, Carter just didn't want it. Olivia was a much better sport about it all. She actually ate a good bit of it. We repeated the experience tonight and they both did better. See pics of our "first" try.
