Dad's night out
Forrest was invited to go spend a guy's night with some of the men from our Sunday School class at a cabin out in the sticks. They first had dinner at "Movie Star", which is a country cookin place but they also have a steak special (2 steak dinners, $25), which I think the men took advantage of. Then they headed about an hour outside of town to someone's cabin on the river. They played poker, built a bonfire, and had a merry (read: medicated!) time.
That left the three of us on our own for the night. It went pretty well and I snapped these pics of us the next day. The babies stayed in their jammas all day long - what a treat!

Polo Boy
I just love this outfit. We are now moving Carter out of his 3 month clothes and into his 3-6 months clothes. He's really between sizes (aren't we all?), but still it's time to move him up as his pants are becoming high waters.
My cousin June got this cute Polo outfit for Carter. Olivia has a matching one, but she's way too small for it. I'm afraid it will be unseasonal by the time she can fit into it. They outfits did come with matching blankets, which we have used since day one.

Chili Cookoff
Being from Texas, I love a good chili cookoff. The Keg and Barrel hosted their 2nd annual (gasp - what a tradition!) chili cookoff on Saturday and there was no way we were going to miss it.
It was a cold day, and the reason that's important is so that you'll understand why I did not get a single picture of the cook off itself. The Keg and Barrel is a bar that is inside an old bungalow style house. However, they have a long driveway adjacent to the house, and that was where the competitors set up. There were 40 entries (whew!) and they all set up their tents (like what you'd see on the beach) and served their chilis. The festivities started at 11:00, and showed up shortly after the start time to participate in the fun. I dressed Olivia in her soft fleece pants, a onesy, and a fleece hooded jacket. I dressed Carter in cotton pants and a cotton hoody. I totally underestimated how cold it was. The temperature was in the 40s and the wind was fierce. There were other kids there, but they were all bundled up head to toe in layers upon layers, underneath big puffy ski suits. Carter and Olivia didn't stand a chance in those elements.
So, we staked a claim inside and it ended up working out well. Forrest manned the fort while I made runs to the different booths and brought samples of chili for Forrest and I to try. There was indian chili, italian wedding bean chili, white chocolate turducken chili, wild boar chili, pheasant chili, several venison chilis, a white chicken chili, one that claimed to be a true Texas chili (ha! I didn't agree), and many others. We only got to about 15 of them before we had our fill.
Two of Forrest's coworkers from his department, Rich and Yen, were there with their spouses. Also, Yen and her husband John brought their son Adam, who is 8 months old and about 15 pounds of pure cuteness. I think he will be a good friend to Carter and Olivia.
So, below are the pics I got from the event. They were all taken from our table inside the bar. I know, they suck. I didn't even get any pics of the tents. I have much to learn, but I"m trying.

Aunt Liah's trip to Hattiesburg - Guest Blogger edition!

I kept putting off writing about our wonderful weekend with Liah, and finally I decided to plagiarize her blog and just post it here, under the guise of a "guest blogger". It's terribly lazy but she did such a great job, I just had to steal her recap. Oh, and these are also her pics. Go figure!

Hattiesburg: Its Foliage
Actually, this post is about the neighborhood shopping. Sarah and Forrest are in a rental while they wait for their house in Arlington to sell, and we did a little bit of driving around on Friday to check out potential neighborhoods. I just love all the houses there! It's funny how architecture is different when you go to different parts of the country.
This visit really solidified my love for the South. It's laid back, people are really friendly, and everything just seems really inviting.
And I love the landscape possibilities there. I told Sarah and Forrest that they have to hang ferns from their porch - if the climate will allow it, you simply must do it.

Hattiesburg: Bop's
On Friday night, we took the kiddos to Parents' Night Out at church and Sis, Forrest and I went to Tabella's for dinner. Wowee, it was some great food! We had a really fun adult dinner, but the shortage of cannoli at the restaurant sent us for dessert at Bop's Frozen Custard, which was another really great experience
Sis and I highly recommend the Bop's Favorite Concrete, which is vanilla custard with strawberries and dark chocolate flakes. Mmm mmmmmmm.
Hattiesburg: Beach Bound
On Saturday, we headed down to Gulfport to check out the hurricane damage (that is still there, sadly), enjoy some sandy beach, and to ultimately eat some good seafood grub.

Saturday afternoon was a real highlight of the weekend for me. We took a nice stroll along the beach and I was able to get some really cute shots of Sarah's little family. We also happened upon a photographer who was walking along the water with a girlfriend, and she agreed to take our picture - judging by her competency with using my point-and-shoot camera, she is used to manipulating her own settings on a much nicer camera.
After sifting through my beach pictures, I honestly can't pare them down that much for inclusion here. I just love them all! So, without further ado...

Now, I just have to say that while I am not an expert in pop culture, I was surprised by these folks' dedicated to the Keebler family of products. Dare I say "Only in Mississippi"??

The rest of our trip was spent just hanging around and playing with the babies. I was so lucky to get this time with them!

Sunday morning, we went to church, and I just love their new church family. Everyone there is so unbelievably friendly! Their Sunday School class is very similar to the one P and I belong to, and I feel good about them getting plugged in there. I think they'll really enjoy that place.
After church, I had to leave to come home to Dallas, and parting is such sweet sorrow. The babies were conked out when I left, so I didn't get great big goodbye hugs. Carter seemed vaguely aware that something was happening, but not Miss O.

Just a lazy Saturday
Forrest had to go to work this afternoon. He is presenting in a conference in New Orleans next week and he's putting the final touches on the paper he'll be handing out. So, that left some goof off time for the babies and me. We enjoyed each other, as always (well, almost always, hehe).
Flying
This past week the babies started flying - meaning I lie on my back, lift my knees up, and balance them on their bellies on my legs. They are now strong enough to hold their heads up so I assumed that they were ready to fly. I was right!
